January 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR! And with the New Year comes a
NEW MRS. HOBBS WEBSITE and FAN CLUB NEWS (previously known as the newsletter). Guess what? You are hereby an inaugural member of the Mrs. Hobbs Fan Club!

I hope you'll check out the site (you'll still find it at
www.MrsHobbs.com), especially the Music section, where there's a new music player, so you can hear all the songs in one place. And the lyrics and song info are right there too. You can also see some of the great press I've been getting in the News section, especially about the QuattroFormaggio event at Highways in December (more about that in a little bit). The Shows section has all the info on upcoming shows, as well as info on past shows.

Speaking of which, I'll be playing this Friday in Hollywood at the
Karma Coffeehouse with my favorite violinist, Annabelle, and straight from QuattroFormaggio, my new favorite Afro-Cuban percussionist, Quentin Josephy. I'll be doing a couple solo songs and a couple songs with them. And afterwards, comes another accordion-wielding band,
Mrs. Brown's Lovely Daughter.

Here's the scoop:

New Years is a time of looking forward, but also a time of looking back. 2007 was the year I really started performing around town, and I am so grateful to all the people who gave me those opportunities.

From Vermouth, a great group who invited me to play my first big gig at Bordello, one of my favorite clubs; to Tommy Santee Klaus, Mrs. Brown's Lovely Daughter, and Acid Head Ed, who've asked me to share shows with them; to Shana Nys Dambrot, Elizabeth Paige Smith and Robin Mendez having me at their art garden salons in Venice; to Lynn Rosenblood & Louise Fraser & Ellen for sharing Talking Stick nights; to Anne & Jeff Grimaldo of the modern dance company, Naked With Shoes for asking me to collaborate with them on the performance "Common Side Effects" that was a part of both "365 Days/365 Plays" and "QuattroFormaggio" at Highways Performance Space, which gave me the chance to sing and play my accordion in new ways (like hanging off my neck), and also made the news in the LA Weekly, LA Times, & Flavorpill. And it has been a pleasure to work with such talented artists as violinist Annabelle Cabrera & percussionist Quentin Josephy & poet Milo Martin, and I look forward to working with them and others in the coming year.

Finally, thanks to everyone who came out to shows or offered words of encouragement, & special thanks to my family, Richard & Gigi, for supporting this wacky dream of mine.

Enough of the gushing like a scripted actress winning an Oscar....Onward 2008!

Singin' and Squeezin',
