May 2008

Were you wondering where "The Missus" had gone? You may not have heard from me much lately, but some pretty wonderful things have been happening quietly under the radar.

I've got a new song up on the site called “Coming Home”.

Plus I’ve been rehearsing some songs with my very talented musical friends, Annabelle and Quentin, working on developing a little set to take out on the town together. There’s violin, various percussive instruments, and, of course, the accordion.  It’s sounding pretty sweet, if I say so myself.

And now here are some gigs...

This is an event that is mothers performing about motherhood, hosted by your favorite mother, Yours Truly. It's for those who are mothers, as well as those married to mothers, friends of mothers, or anyone who's had a mother.

The line-up includes Ellen, Lynn Rosenblood, Kaye Resnick, Ashley Maher, Lisa Robins, & Loren Segan.

I’ll be bringing you songs of motherhood by such "feminists" as The Who and
The Stones, as well as a new Mrs. Hobbs original, “A Tree Called Love”, a song about motherhood and transformation.

I am excited and honored to be a part of this festival, and will be performing with my new band members, Annabelle & Quentin.

Mrs. Hobbs & co. will be performing on Sunday, June 1st, around 6pm.

There will be a diverse group of bands with accordions, including some of my faves: Vagabond Opera, Jessica Fichot, and Mrs. Brown's Lovely Daughter, plus a whole slew of groups I'm looking forward to seeing for the first time too. There's Cajun, Celtic, Conjunto, Cabaret, and more.

Check the event website for the latest information on times, bands, and tickets.

Finally, I have to share the most incredibly amazing thing that happened recently. One night at a Talking Stick open mic, an older gentleman, Earl, who I’ve seen there for some time, GAVE me an accordion! I have been astounded and moved by the generosity of such a gift. It had been his wife’s and he said he didn’t want it sitting in the garage anymore. He wanted me to have it, but said I had to keep playing.... Well, Earl, I will.
